I'm sick with a cold that doesn't want to leave, which sucks, but on the bright side, it's given me a lot of time to read. As a result, I've finished The Life of Pi and another book, A Thousand Splendid Suns, the follow-up book to The Kite Runner.
Both had a lot of similiarities. Both deal with oppressive circumstances that have no real escape. Both feature terrible tragedy, but end on a brighter note. Ultimately, I'd have to say The Life of Pi edged out A Thousand Splendid Suns by a few points. It's just a story unlike anything I've read before.
Next up, a change of pace. Cara Lockwood's The Scarlet Letterman, a YA. What are you reading?
Right now I'm in the middle of Storyteller by Amy Thomson. So far, it's interesting, but it's not grabbing me so much that I'd rather read it than work on my own writing.
ReplyDeleteI just finished ILLUMINATION NIGHT by Alice Hoffman (Practical Magic). It was fantastic, and written in omniscient, so I learned craft while I read. A twofer. :-)
ReplyDeleteI picked up The Life of Pi at the librabry and looked at it. I thought the story sounded very unusual. Maybe I should go back and get it.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I'm reading right now is my friends manuscript. LOL! AFter that, I should be starting some Harlequin American books I just recently won.
I stayed up too late and read Sophie Jordan's One Night With You. Great book!
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon. (((Hugs)))
Drink Bolthouse Farms Green Goodness juice. I'm not kidding, the stuff should be illegal, it's got magic properties.
ReplyDeleteI just finished reading The Tenth Muse, memoir by Judith Jones (who edited many famous cookbooks, including Julia Child's). Also, the first 100 pages of a fantastic new paranormal series coming from Deidre Knight later this year (early next year? unsure of on sale date.) Keep an eye out, this one will knock your socks off!
You're doing good. The bad thing about my job is that when you spend all day proofing and formatting a book, it's hard to then sit down and read one for pleasure.
ReplyDeleteI really need lighter fare, so I just finished Sexiest Man Alive by Diana Holquist. I'll be writing about it Friday. Now I'm reading Blood of Fire by Diane Whiteside, her second book in the Texas vampire series.
ReplyDeleteInto the Storm by Suzanne Brockmann. Well, I'm reading that when I can find a spare moment to read.
