The Wildlife! Costa Rica teems with wildlife of all varieties. Considering the country houses both rain forests and cloud forests, it's no surprise. Here are a few of the things we saw on our travels:
These guys (along with their brother) were strolling the beach like they owned the place. Apparently the raccoons in the state park are no longer nocturnal since there are only people on the beach during the day. And no people means no bags to rummage through. Seriously. They were more thorough than TSA.
These lovelies were clogging up the brackish river beneath one of the bridges we went over. There had to be at least 20 or more of them. You're welcome for the close-up. Makes our Florida gators look downright cuddly. Saltwater crocs are mean. Sort of like TSA again.
And this little fellow was scampering around at the outdoor pitstop were we took a drink break. A young boy (17-ish) there pointed out a few more to me. Those were running up and down a tree with surprising speed. I said to him, "Como se dice iguana?" (How do you say iguana?) He just laughed and said, "Iguana." Yeah, my language skills are made of awesome.
By the way, doesn't he kind of look like he's wearing a sweater?
Tomorrow...more pictures of random Costa Rican goodness. Including a fruit that looks like frog's eggs.

Holy smokes! Scary wild life. I'd be afraid to walk around with those animals. Were you? Love the language skills. Ha! Great photos though brave one.
ReplyDeleteOkay...I would have high-tailed it when the white alligator showed up. Yikes!!!
ReplyDeleteHa! It does look like it's wearing a sweater. :)
ReplyDeleteTold hubs about your trip. Brought a HUGE smile to his face! Wants to know if you heard the howler monkeys? Did you see the three-toes sloth?
ReplyDeletei wanna go.
ReplyDeleteOh my the raccoons look weird, kinda skinny. And the iguana totally looks like he's wearing a sweater. LOL
ReplyDeleteVery cool pics!! Love the bold raccoons :)
ReplyDeleteWhere's the monkeys!! If you really want up close and personal with them, get some bananas...no, nevermind that could be dangerous:o)
ReplyDeleteWow, I can't believe you got that close to the gator! Or was it a croc? Either way, ...eek!
ReplyDeleteAs for raccoons, those little buggers are always sneaking into my garage to eat the cat food. The other day hubby had to chase out a baby. It got out then tried to attack him.
LOL
Glad you got some pics! :-)
Oh I love the raccoons! And you can keep the sweater wearing lizard. I like them, too, but those there look a bit bold.
ReplyDeleteToo funny about how to say Iguana. At least you were already used to Florida gators. You had a little warning about how to act...scared.
ReplyDeleteI have no love for raccoons or gators, but would still like to visit.
