A couple of you asked for more info about the mission trip Hotrod and I and my parents are going on, so here's the deets:
We're off to Costa Rica, where my parents have some friends who are missionaries there. They've been there for ages and have established several churches. One of those churches is in a fairly poor area and the people need clothes. This is where we come in. Over the last few months, we (me, Hotrod & the 'rents) have been collecting clothing donations from our respective churches. Those clothes have been sorted and bundled up so that each couple is bringing 200 pounds with them.
That means all our checked baggage is donated clothes and our own stuff will be in the carry-ons. Can I pack for a week in a carry-on? Totally! Can Hotrod? That's where it gets interesting. I'm sure at some point in the packing process he'll ask me if I have room. He always does.
Anyway, while we're there we'll be seeing the sights and so on. They have a lot of monkeys in CR, so I'll be looking for them. My dad, who's been there several times, keeps talking about the spiny lobster. My dad + food = typical
Have you been to Costa Rica? Heard anything about it?

Oh wow. That sounds so great. I love that you are combining important work with a good time. I'm part of the YAMS in my church. The Young Adult Missionary Society.
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful. I can't wait to see the pics. HotRod is too funny. I'm with him. I'd never be able to pack for a week in a carry on unless I was in awesome shape and it was all jersey dressing.
It's supposed to be gorgeous, that's all I know. So you'll fit right in! Of course you can pack for a week in a carry-on; all you need are bikinis and pareos, right?
ReplyDeleteStinger always asks if I have room for the extra books he invariably brings and doesn't have time to read.
It's considered a tropical rainforest and there's a lot of expats there. And I have clothes for you to take down!
ReplyDeleteI've never been there. What a great experience, though!
ReplyDeleteWe've had mission trips to help with New Orleans after Katrina and this summer our church went to Brazil. Maybe some day when my little one is older, I'll get to go.
I've never been but I'm sure your experience will be wonderful! I hope you take lots of pictures.
ReplyDeleteI've only been to Puerto Rico for a missions trip. That's awesome that you're bringing them clothes. We're so blessed over here.
ReplyDeleteWow, that trailer gave me chills. It's so good. And scary. :-)
ReplyDeleteI've been there. Spent a couple of weeks. LOVED IT. Want to go back so bad! I swear, if we'd known about the mission trip, hubs and I would have bugged to go too!
ReplyDeleteWe spent time around Arenal Volcano, and a national park (Name can't be accessed in my brain right now) and some time around San Juan (Is that right? Brain isn't up yet)
What area will you be in? Do you speak Spanish?
We got hooked on Costa Rica coffee while we were there (Cafe Britt) and still order it by the case!
I LOVE Costa Rica!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait till my next trip!
Have fun!
That's amazing. What a wonderful thing to do!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Costa Rica, but I've head it is lovely. You must take pictures post them!

Have a fantastic time! Mr. Brice and I went with my parents and my aunt and uncle in May/June 2007 and absolutely LOVED it. Fantastic.
ReplyDeleteWhere will you be going? We were in Arenal for 4 days and then 5 days at a beach house just outside of Manuel Antonio Park.
It was gorgeous. Take lots of pictures!!!
That sounds like a fantastic way to spend Christmas! Can you fit me in your carry on?

ReplyDeleteThat sounds wonderful! I turned down an all expense paid trip to Costa Rica in June because Kayla was so old. I didn't want to leave her. Someday I will get the chance again. Until then I will enjoy it through your eyes! It's wonderful that you're bringing them clothes.
