Last night, Hotrod and I took the class to get our concealed carry permits. And I shot my S&W 9 mil for the first time.
It was a little scary at first. Not because I was afraid I was going to shoot myself, but because I was afraid I would yelp like a girl when I fired the first round. It was loud on the range, even with the headphones, and I knew the gun would have some kick to it. I squeezed the trigger and sure enough, when that round fired and I saw the muzzle flash and heard the pop of the explosion, I squealed like I'd just seen a spider. (The instructor was very helpful and stayed with me until I felt comfortable.)
Once I knew how it was going to feel, I was fine. It was a lot of fun, actually. There's something very satisfying in knowing how to handle a gun. I can't wait to go back and shoot again! I brought my target home and while every shot didn't hit the paper (I know that first one didn't), I'm proud of the one that hit dead center.
Beware. I'm now cute and lethal.

What do you mean, "now"? You've always been lethally cute. ;)
ReplyDeleteI am totally getting turned on here...
ReplyDeleteRemind me never to cross you. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThe first time I shot a gun, it scared the crap out of me. However I refuse to let fear take over because I wanted to work security. I was in the Navy and calmed down enough to get my marksmen award.
ReplyDeleteNow in the real world never had the desire to carry a weapon. I pray you never have to use it.
Yer makin me hot.
ReplyDeleteOooh look at you, packing heat! I've fired my husband's handgun a couple of times - they make it look so easy on TV and the movies! But it's tough.
ReplyDeleteI've had my concealed license for quite a while (I've had it so long, I've had to renew it twice)
ReplyDeleteI have the hardest time keeping my eyes open when I fire. BAD habit!
And Kitteh, you're lethal without a gun!
I'd be way too scared to keep a gun in the house.
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! I'd love to know how to use a gun.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you think I joined the Marine Corps? They have bigger guns than we did back home;o)
ReplyDeleteOkay, now I'm envious.
ReplyDeleteFor years I've wanted to have a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Not that I would carry one. Just wanted to know I could.
I might just have to start saving some $$ so I can take a class. After all, cute and lethal are the new "yes, we can."
Because of his job, my father always had a gun in the house. And he made very sure to install a healthy fear in me when I was very young.
ReplyDeleteSo, when I fired my first gun (at 23) I was petrified. But now I love target and skeet shooting. Oh...don't feel alone, I totally squealed the first time I pulled the trigger. :-)
You are lethal is all sorts of ways. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad you don't carry it in your handbag. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt was so great to meet you! I look forward to keeping in touch. You have much to teach, oh Wise One.
The noise is the only reason I don't like the range. Glad you're getting your concealed permit. Look out world ;)
ReplyDeleteAnytime a woman gets her concealed carry it warms my heart.
ReplyDeleteWith kids in the house, I'd not have one. I think I might like target practice though.
