I looked at my preliminary headshots yesterday and I have to say, I am whipsawed with confusion over which one to pick. There doesn't seem to be a general consensus from the folks I've asked so far, which is only confusing me further.
So, I ask you, my faithful blog reader, to chime in with your valued opinion.
Which one of these looks like the headshot of an author capable of writing urban fantasy vampire books?
Keep in mind they'll all be black and white in the back of the book, AND these haven't been digitally "cleaned up" yet.

ReplyDeleteYou can't really go wrong with #2 OR #3. But I think #2 has a little more "confidence" and "edge" to it for a Urban Fantasy author. My 2 cents anyway.

ReplyDeleteBut I think I like #2 the best. I don't know, though, the animal print and chunky jewelry in #1 helps your sought-after urban-fantasy-vampire-writing look. Hmm... Maybe I'm no help.

Of the three, the second one is hitting me more as an author shot than the other two. #3 looks like a senior picture shot (maybe because I was just looking at senior picture proofs for a friend and several poses were like that), and #1 seems too casual.
ReplyDeleteAck! This is hard b/c they're all great. I really like the jewelry showing in #1 but I also really really like #3. I like the way the focus fades on the rest of the wall.
ReplyDeleteBUT, I think like #2 the best. There's a look in your eyes that says "I'm awesome and I know it" No matter what you pick, though you won't go wrong :)
I love the #3 and #2 the most. But you know that already. LOL

#2 looks like, "Are you insane? I'm supposed to look kick-ass, not like a piece of..."
#3 looks like, "Hey, I write bad-assed vampires for a living. What do you do, puny man?"
So, that said, I like #3 the best. But that's just me...

ReplyDeleteI tried to like #3 best, I really did. But #2 has a very "sultry romance writer" quality to it. That little confident smile kinda says "is my publisher lucky, or WHAT?"
Yup. #2 is my fave.
#3 says "urban fantasy author who knows what she's doing" to me.

They're all great... but I'd go for #3. Sexy and mysterious. You'll get more straight fantasy (male) cross-over readers? ;-) You look most relaxed in #3 to me, too.

Hmmm, well, I don't know what urban fantasy author shots look like, but all of these are beautiful. Number one looks like you mean business. LOL Number two looks sexy and strong. And number three looks sensual and dreamy. Number two would go with what I'd assume an urban fantasy type look would be, but since I don't read it I can't say for sure. :-)
