Have you ever watched that show Hoarders? It's riveting in the way a bad car wreck is riveting. You can't look away and you feel bad for those involved.
It's also a great way to motivate yourself to clean. Just saying.
I don't happen to be even close to a hoarder, in fact, Hotrod thinks I lack sentimentality because I never hang on to stuff like Christmas cards. I just don't need a lot of things to hold on to the memories attached to them. He, on the other hand, has some borderline hoarder tendencies that I have to really keep an eye on. Mostly by throwing crap away when he's gone. Seriously, it works wonders.
What about you? Do you hoard stuff? Are you a pack rat? Or do you keep things neat and tidy regardless of sentimentality? Tell the truth!

My hubby is the sentimental one...keeps cards, etc. I throw everything away.
ReplyDeleteNot a hoarder, AT ALL.
Sometimes I throw away his crap and then tell him I have no idea where it is when he asks. That's not a lie. At that point in time, I don't have any idea where it is (in the landfill!)
Funny, I'm a very sensitive and emotional person, but saving things like cards mean nothing to me. I can't stand clutter.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I have one picture/scrapbook of things my hubby and I did from the time we met until we got married. That's a keeper. :)
Christmas cards, b-day cards, V-day cards, you name it, they all end up in the garbage. (which is why I don't give people bday cards, just presents). The only Christmas cards I keep are the photo cards b/c I can put them on my fridge. Other than that, I don't have the room!
ReplyDeleteThe only stuff I do keep are sweet cards from my hubby that he's actually written in. And I have a scrapbook of the letters he sent from his time overseas. I'm sentimental in that aspect but other than a few overflowing bookshelves, my house is clutter free :)
My gosh I've seen that show, and they aren't just messy, it's unsanitary. I'm just the opposite.. I keep tossing stuff out and giving things away. I like to pull things out of the closet and ask myself if it's worth the space it takes up.
ReplyDeleteI'm the exact opposite too. I throw everything away and then think... hey, where did that thingie go? oops, too late!
ReplyDeleteNot a hoarder here! My main problem is that I get really into a hobby (say, jewelery makeing) and buy up all the groovy supplies, then realize its a lot of work, and put it in the closet. Then three years later, I donate it all to goodwill. Or my friends kid who's interested... So basically, I just waste money.
ReplyDeleteI cannot NOT watch Hoarders. I find it fascinating and disturbing all at once! And then yes, I always want to clean.
ReplyDeleteI don't keep birthday cards, etc. but I feel like a mess because of all the kid stuff (toys) that clutters the house. I secretly toss stuff when they're in school. Ssshhhhh...
I used to be a bit of a pack rat, but I've changed. Now I like to de-clutter as much as I can.
ReplyDeleteCan I tell you a secret? I've been putting aside notes to write about a hoarder. It's fascinating, I agree.
I use to be a major packrat, but I am now on a decluttering kick. Usually when you keep things around you - it is because you are trying to gain control - which is hilarious - because with all the stuff...of course...you are losing control. Once you realize this - it is easier to get rid of everything!
ReplyDeleteAww, that picture is too cute! And unfortunately I do hoard. Not like my husband, he's could be in the hoarding Olympics.
ReplyDeleteI haven't watched it in a long time. I keep missing it. But it is really sad and motivational. I'm a bit of a pack rat but thankfully nothing like that. I think I'm just messy.
ReplyDeleteWhile I do keep a small box of special cards, I don't really hoard stuff. I hate clutter. *sigh* And my husband insists on having a junk drawer, which drives me NUTS.
