On Writing

I was up past 1am last night reading Stephen King's On Writing. I read 116 pages in the first sitting. Actually, I was in bed, so it wasn't a sitting so much as it was a lying. Anyway, great book. I can't believe how interesting it is! I've owned it for a least a year and decided last night was a good time to start reading it since nothing on my TBR shelf looks that appealing. Besides, I'm sure Awaken Me Darkly will be here today or tomorrow and then I'll have something interesting to read.

What's your favorite book on writing?

  2. I've been meaning to buy that book for months already. It's in my TBBL (to be bought list). Hopefully for next month...

BTW, you've been tagged on the new tag game! ;)

  3. I had On Writing on my TBR list forever. I don't like horror, so thought I wouldn't like it. But everyone kept saying I HAD to read it.
I LOVED it. Honest, inspiring, funny. King is the kind of guy you want to live next door. Who knew?

  4. I'd have to say Donald Maass's Writing the Breakout Novel, to be honest. Basically, he summarizes the components that make up a "breakout" novel, gives examples, goes into depth on them, and explains how to do it. (Though the companion workbook goes into much more detail on the "how-to," while the original is more theory.) Lovely, lovely book, and one I think any intermediate/advanced writer should read. :)
