So What Do You Write?

That's usually the question that follows immediately after someone asks "What do you do?" and you answer "I'm a writer."

Sometimes I say romance. Sometimes I say women's fiction. And sometimes, depending on the crowd, I say contemporary paranormal.

How do you answer? Does it depend who you're talking to?

  1. I say all kinds. I write nonfiction for the web and magazines as well as young adult and romance fiction. Then they always ask, "Have you been published?" LOL

  2. I usually say romantic comedy...like a chick flick in book form. That pretty much covers it with no further explanation. :-)

  3. These days, when asked, I answer "fantasy and romance." I'll go in more detail if asked, but usually I get a surprised smile and a "That's nice."

Oh well. What can you expect from the 'danes? LOL.

  4. When people ask me what I write, I simply say, "books." That pretty much discourages them from further inquiring. *lol*

  5. I usually say I'm a writer. If they ask "THE QUESTION" There's really no getting around it. Depending on how conservative they are I either say "I write erotic romance novels" or "I write really spicy romance novels" Hee hee. What can you do?

  6. I've been known to say "I write Trash". After doing it for a while, I've decided I don't write "Trash". I write romance. I still have MAJOR inferiority complex about it. Silly right? Most people don't ask. I think they're afraid I'll launch into some long dissertation on my work. LOL. Mostly, I don't say I write at all. Being unpubbed, that's pretty easy to say.

  7. I usually say 'I write smut. The really good kind.'

That usually ends the conversation, unless it's a man I'm talking to...

    then it gets interesting...;-)

  9. Oh, Vivi Anna, I can relate to that!

I usually say, "erotic fantasy romance for a small press" but Mistah Midnight proudly declares, "My wife writes smutty books!" You gotta love him. LOL
