Would you?

SEATTLE — Washington state officials have banned a procedure that uses tiny fish to nibble dead skin off the feet of customers getting pedicures.

Let's say the carp pedicure wasn't banned in your state - would you try it? They're apparently very popular in other countries like Turkey and places in Asia.

What happens is the fish nibble off all the dead skin. Gross, but seemingly not to the fish, which are a kind of tiny, toothless carp. (Not sure how they nibble without teeth.) Afterwards, a regular pedicure is performed. Obviously, polishing isn't part of the fishes job description. They have no hands, how would they hold the bottle?

These ladies in Virginia seem to be enjoying the nibbling fish. And at something like $30 for the 15 minute experience, it's not so out of reach, like the $1000 brownie.

So, would you try it? Tell me what you think. You can read more about it here.

  1. Sadly, I've thought ling and hard about this. Procrastinate much, Kwana. I don't think I could handle it. I would tickle too much and maybe gross me out. Give me the old fashioned. I love your image of how would the fish hold the nail polish. That would make a cute illustration.

  3. It looks rather interesting. But I can't see myself trying at it. I don't swim in rivers for that very reason.

  4. Yeah I don't think I do this. It's kinda gross.

Um yeah I just sat here and thought about it some more. I think it's really gross. No thanks. LOL

  5. I saw this a while back and to me it's sort of creepy. Don't they make files and stones for this very thing.

  6. Son: "Where are you going, Mom?"

Mom: "I'm going to let some fish eat the skin off my feet."

Son: "Sheesh, why can't you be like all the cool moms and just go shopping at the mall or something?"

  7. I have to say that I'd be game to try it...as long as the water was clean and it was a fresh batch of fish from the previous user. It would probably tickle like all get-out, but I hear it leaves your feel amazingly smooth.

    Let's go, Mel! = )

  9. *shrug* It doesn't seem any different than wading into the Gulf and having all the little fishies nibbling on my legs. That kinda tickles, but it's funny. And since they don't have teeth, it looks like they're giving you hundreds of little kisses. =o)
