Mmmm...pie

Friday, November 14th, is National Pickle Day. Get your dill on!

It was 94 here yesterday. Makes it a little tough to get in the holiday spirit, but I'm working on it. We'll be headed to my folks for Thanksgiving and I spoke to my mom yesterday about the shopping list. I told her the things I needed most were pumpkin pie, mashed potatoes and corn. Sure I like turkey and cranberry relish and all that other stuff, too, but I'm a pumpkin pie addict. Truly. Hot, cold, with whip, without whip...I'll eat it any way it comes.

And mashed potatoes are one of those foods I almost never eat except at Thanksgiving and Christmas so I want to be sure there is enough. And the corn? I like that on the mashed potatoes. Is that weird?

What are your favorite Thanksgiving foods?

  1. Hmmm. Pumpkin pie is the only pumpkin food I don't like. So I'm making pumpkin cheesecake and pecan pie for dessert.
I LOVE cranberry sauce on my turkey, my mom's giblet stuffing, and mushroom gravy.
Alton Brown has a recipe for corn pudding in a skillet that's baked that looks good. Since I'm cooking this year, I might try it.

  2. I LOVE pumpkin anything-and I'm another corn/mashed potatoes girl. But will they be buttermilk mashed potatoes, or half and half? (forget the skim milk-it's thanksgiving!)

I'm doing T day this year and I make a killer cornbread stuffing-with homemade cornbread, sausage, bacon, crasins, apples and celery and fresh sage out of my garden.

Creamed spinach is another fave here-from scratch of course.

You know, if you put the pumpkin filling in custard cups and bain marie'd it-it wouldn't be as fattening and you could eat it more often.

    LOVE the picture! BRAWHAHAHAHA

I love all the desserts at Thanksgiving! No surprise there.

But I adore the homemade yeast rolls. YUM

I have a terrific pumpkin pie recipe! I'll be making pumpkin pie, coconut cream pie, mile high strawberry pie, and Mac-and-cheese.

  4. My mom's pumpkin pie makes me cry, it's so good. I can't believe I don't get to have it this year. Hey, do you ever do anything fun with your mashed potatoes? I've got a recipe that has buttermilk and shallots in it that is to die for, and actually slightly healthier than the full cream/butter version...

  5. Pumpkin pie for sure. Stuffing as long as it's not from my great-grandma's most disgusting ever recipe (blech). I really never eat mashed potatoes either, hmmm...

  6. In the bird stuffing with home made gravy and dark meat. That is heaven on a plate. I could do without all the other trimmings as long as I have that.

Man, you are making me hungry! This year, I don't know if my mom will even want to cook. Might be a store bought Thanksgiving. Oh memories.

  8. Yum, mashed potatoes and stuffing. All time faves, hands down.
I tagged everyone on my sidebar to post stuff, if you want to play. :-)

  10. That pic is so funny. I love canned jelled cranberry sauce. It makes me happy when it goes on sale. I'm already serving it a side dish with regural dinners.

  13. Pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes. Although, I would totally settle for the mashed potatoes. The only time I eat them are during the holidays so I gotta get my fix to last the rest of the year :)
