STAR Conference Gossip

The STAR conference has come and gone but not without some memorable moments. Check out Diana Peterfreund's blog to get a hint of some of what went on: Diana's Blog.

Feel free to ask me for answers. I know most of them. Hah!

LOL, Kristen :) I saw Diana's blog but I have no clue to any of the answers.

  2. Okay, I'm officially asking for answers. Is there a magic word I should say, or something?

  3. Rachel - Give me a number, I'll give you an answer - if I know it.

  4. Oooh, thanks!

    1 and 3.

  5. #1 - That would be Tor senior editor, Melissa Singer. She passed on The Mummy.

#3 - That would be Debbie Macomber, another STAR chapter member! The other best-selling author is (I believe) Nora Roberts. I'm not positive about Nora but I am about Debbie.

  7. Hey, thanks!

I got a rejection from an assistant editor at Tor, then an offer from a senior editor. (not Melissa) Weird, huh? It's all so subjective. And I'll admit that I love these "I passed on a big hit" story. I probably shouldn't, but I do!

  9. Who's NAL?

  10. 75k mailing list is Christine Feehan.

  11. NAL stands for New American Library, an imprint of Penguin Putnam, that also puts out Signet and Onyx books.

Thought I thought #8 was a different publisher...

  12. That's what came up when I googled, but wanted to double check.

Could have been National Association of Limerickers. Just makin sure. Better to ask a stupid question than send the Limerickers my story.:P

  13. Thanks for the info, Diana. I got the answer to #8 from one of my fellow attending CP's but they weren't sure either.

    Limerickers. That's funny.

  14. What about #2 and #9. I really want the answer to all the questions, but I'll pace myself :)

  15. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the name of the woman who's the answer to #2.

I believe #9 is Nancy Robards Thompson who writes for Harlequin Next (and has just signed a deal for two more books with them).
