Tune-ses

Do you make soundtracks for your books to listen to while you write them? Do you listen to music to help you get in the mood for different kinds of scenes? Or are you one of those who needs quiet? Tell me how music fits into your creative process.

Besides all that, what have you been listening to for pleasure lately?

  1. I don't listen to much music any more. Not that I don't like it, but I just don't think about turning the stereo on. Mostly I listen in my car, and right now the CD of choice is John Mayer's Continuum.

I do have a tape I like to listen to when I'm working on tense scenes though. It's all harsh alternative - things like Bush and Jane's Addiction. It jars me out of my comfortable, happy place and into a place where I can throw down scenes where the villian is winning (albeit temporarily).

Yes, I make a soundtrack for every story. I have to, because I write when I can instead of having a set time. It serves as a transitional device and helps me get back into the grove of the story.

  5. When I was writing my WWII romances, it helped me to listen to music from that era. I'd pop in a Glenn Miller CD and get inspired.

  6. Quiet. To quote "Chicken Run"
"It's all in me head. It's all in me head."

  7. You know that I always have a soundtrack to get me in the writing groove! What am I listening to? A mix of love songs including oldies and newbies... switching out to a heavier soundtrack of My Chemical Romance, then cooling down with Maroon 5, Mat Kearney, Lifehouse, the Postal Service, Fergie, Five for Fighting...the list goes on...

  8. I've never done a soundtrack for any of my stories but I must have music while I write.

For some reason, I had an urge to listen to Led Zepplin all evening. But the characters in my WIP are not into classic rock, at all.

  9. Hehe. The kitties are cute. My poor ipod doesn't get that much use and I can't remember the last time I opened my itunes program...
My last wip I completed was done in complete silence. Odd huh.

  10. *LOL* Love that rocking cat! As for preparing soundtracks, I admire those who can do so. I might have a song that might remind me a specific scene or something like that. But I've never been able to sit and burn a CD with songs and then play it while I'm writing. I listen to music depending on my mood. And my mood and my writing are separate even when I'm in a certain mood when I'm writing. Okay, that might not make sense. I'm weird that way. *rofl*

  11. I can listen to music while I'm plotting, but not really while actually writing.

Just lately, listening to a lot of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and also Dolly Parton.
