Friday the 13th

The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskavedekatriaphobia. If you can say that, you really have no reason to be afraid.

When it comes to phobias, I really only have two: spiders and the fear of being buried alive. Weird, I know. What phobias do you have? (See a list of every named phobia known to man here.)

In other news, I finally managed to spend 20 minutes on the elliptical yesterday! So much accomplished, although I still have a contest entry sitting on my desk, waiting to be judged. That's first on my list of things to do today (and I'd like to write a page or two). Then I think Hotrod and I are going to play hooky and head for the movies. He's been traveling so much lately I've barely seen him! Plus, tomorrow is his birthday.

  1. Happy Birthday to Hotrod! And go you, working out.

I have a touch of claustrophobia, in that I hate the idea of being trapped, for instance, in a small tunnel or pipe, and being unable to turn around. I don't even like to watch scenes like that in movies. But is that really a phobia, an irrational fear? It seems eminently rational and reasonable to me. Although I guess even people like my mother-in-law, who is petrified of geckos, think their fears are rational.

  3. I have two. Fear of social interaction and a fear of spiders. I read the list, and noticed "Walloonphobia" and I thought, "What in the world is a Walloon?" I thought it might be like a clown or something, so I googled it. It's a romance-speaking people of Germania. Lol!

  4. Happy Birthday Hotrod!!
Ok I didn't have a fear of being buried alive until I just READ IT. I do have a fear of spiders, which is odd because I absolutely love bugs. Love them. Snakes too. But spiders, not so much. Except for Daddy Long Legs. We have them by the dozens on our front porch every summer. I'll have to put up a video of THAT! The wolf spiders, and them star shaped ones that lay flat **shiver** I kill them. Sorry spider lovers!
I'll have to check that list and see if there's a word for fearing your own Mother's phone calls.
I hope you guys get to spend some time together for Valentine's tomorrow!!

  5. Oooh he's a Valentine's baby. Happy Birthday Hotrod!

Hmm fears...I'm not a big fan of snakes. Or mice. Eeek.

My husband goes out of town this afternoon for two weeks so I'm feelin' ya. Hope you have fun at the movies.

  6. I'm with louisa - not a fan of tight spaces. We did the catacomes in Paris, and I really had to do some Deep BReathing exercises there. At one point I thought I'd have to turn around and go back, but I worked through it.

    Happy Birfday Hotrod!

snakes! Totally irrational when it comes to snakes. Spiders...unless it's bigger than I am, not a problem. I didn't think I would claustrophobic, but I did when I was scuba diving and we stirred up the bottom and I couldn't see.

    Happy Birthday Hotrod!

Large crowds, tight spaces. Yikes. Hate that.

Happy Friday the 13th...it's actually my favorite day of the year. :)

  10. I wouldn't say I'm afraid of spiders as much as I just don't like them because they are evil, creepy little things. My big phobia - balloons. Hate them with a passion. I'd rather go to the dentist than to a child's birthday party.

  11. A touch of claustrophobia - comes from being short, I guess. I don't like crowds - and lack of exits.
