Headshots!

I looked at my preliminary headshots yesterday and I have to say, I am whipsawed with confusion over which one to pick. There doesn't seem to be a general consensus from the folks I've asked so far, which is only confusing me further.

So, I ask you, my faithful blog reader, to chime in with your valued opinion.

Which one of these looks like the headshot of an author capable of writing urban fantasy vampire books?

Keep in mind they'll all be black and white in the back of the book, AND these haven't been digitally "cleaned up" yet.

  2. Well, actually they're all great! :)

You can't really go wrong with #2 OR #3. But I think #2 has a little more "confidence" and "edge" to it for a Urban Fantasy author. My 2 cents anyway.

  3. Holy whipsaw, I like them all! You look fabulous, Kristen.

But I think I like #2 the best. I don't know, though, the animal print and chunky jewelry in #1 helps your sought-after urban-fantasy-vampire-writing look. Hmm... Maybe I'm no help.

  4. Going with my initially thoughts

#2 - There is just something mysterious about your facial expression in this photo it fits your UF genre

    #1 - like the jewelry
#3 - I see alot of authors doing this wall lean

  5. Of the three, the second one is hitting me more as an author shot than the other two. #3 looks like a senior picture shot (maybe because I was just looking at senior picture proofs for a friend and several poses were like that), and #1 seems too casual.

  6. Ack! This is hard b/c they're all great. I really like the jewelry showing in #1 but I also really really like #3. I like the way the focus fades on the rest of the wall.

BUT, I think like #2 the best. There's a look in your eyes that says "I'm awesome and I know it" No matter what you pick, though you won't go wrong :)

  7. I love the #3 and #2 the most. But you know that already. LOL

  8. I vote for #2. You have a sly, secretive smile.

  9. I think #3 makes you look like a badass urban fantasy writer.

  10. Wowza! #3 looks mysterious but #2 is a little mischievious. I'm going to vote #3.

  11. Okay, my two cents...

#1 looks like, "Fine, if I have to pose this way, you better make it look good."

#2 looks like, "Are you insane? I'm supposed to look kick-ass, not like a piece of..."

#3 looks like, "Hey, I write bad-assed vampires for a living. What do you do, puny man?"

So, that said, I like #3 the best. But that's just me...

  12. Obviously I'm in the minority, I liked #1 for your headshot, but you can't go wrong with any of them. The camera loves you

  13. Geeze... they are all great. #1 is great in B&W. #3 is nice, love the top. But #2...

I tried to like #3 best, I really did. But #2 has a very "sultry romance writer" quality to it. That little confident smile kinda says "is my publisher lucky, or WHAT?"

    Yup. #2 is my fave.

  14. #3 says "urban fantasy author who knows what she's doing" to me.

  15. #2 or #3. #1 looks like you just sucked a lemon. You're all puckered up.

  16. This is tough. My fave though is #2. :)

  17. Awesome headshots Kristen! You should get them all framed! I vote #3; 2nd choice #2. Number 2 looks a little more bad ass, but #3 is just stunning (and hardly innocent, though you do look younger if you care).

  18. They're all great... but I'd go for #3. Sexy and mysterious. You'll get more straight fantasy (male) cross-over readers? ;-) You look most relaxed in #3 to me, too.

I like #2 a lot, too... But the more I look at them, the more I really like #3 the best.

  19. Hmmm, well, I don't know what urban fantasy author shots look like, but all of these are beautiful. Number one looks like you mean business. LOL Number two looks sexy and strong. And number three looks sensual and dreamy. Number two would go with what I'd assume an urban fantasy type look would be, but since I don't read it I can't say for sure. :-)
Very awesome though! I can't wait to see what you choose. :-)

  22. #3, definitely. :-) You're so gorgeous!!!

  23. I like #2. But #3 comes in a very close second. :-)

  24. 3 is the one. The lighting is perfect. The hair is soft but sexy. Did you hear me say 3!!

  25. #2!!
#3 is my second choice - you look super young, and innocent, like a foxy co-ed. Reowr!

  26. Number 3 gets my vote!

  27. Number 2! But they are terrific! Love the way your hair looks!

  28. #2 would be my choice.

  29. You already know I love #3 the best.
Two is my back up choice.
All of them are good. :)

  30. I love #3 and I think it looks exactly like you. But #2 is very good and has that "author" look. So I vote for #2.
