Here's a question for you all

Do you ever avoid something because it's popular?

I know that for me, when something gets embraced by the masses, that something will start to lose its appeal to me. Not always, mind you, but occasionally.

The Harry Potter books are an example of this. I've never read them and I have no desire too. They became so popular, I lost interest.

Crocs are another one. Besides the fact that I think they're hideous, everyone has them. That immediately negates their desirability in my mind.

Do you ever feel this way?

  1. In this you and I are exactly the same. And I really hate it when I find something I love, only to have it catch on in 6 months. Then I have to get rid of it.

  2. I can look at this from the flip side. I apparently like things not too many others do (certain food or drinks, in particular), because the aren't popular enough to sustain a supply. Everything I like always, somehow or another, gets discontinued. Pfft.

  3. Squee! I haven't read Harry Potter either! I thought I was the only one! Yes, I tend to shy away from "popular" stuff, although I do love my Croc flip-flops. I think the shoes are loathesome but the flips, they are another story, so comfy. And they're cute!

  4. I revolt but always cave.
    iPhone.
    Harry Potter.
    Twilight.
    Glee.
    Blu-ray.
I haven't caved on the Crocs though...even though the flip flops are cute. ;)

  5. Yes and no.
I haven't read the HP's either, or the twilights. When people go on and on about how GOOD it is, and I hear what they're talking about, it doesn't interest me.
    Its just not my taste.

I guess I don't do it on purpose, my taste just doesn't always follow the trend with TV or Books.

  6. Crocs are disgusting and I still don't understand how they became so popular. But yeah, I'm the same way. If everyone has something, I'm less likely to pay attention to it or even want it :)

Yep. Me too. If someone tells me I just have to "fill in the blank", I can't. I've never read the Outlander books, or any of the Twilight Books, or watched the Twilight movies. I don't owe Crocs. I don't watch The Office or 30 Rock.

  8. Ditto. Although sometimes I have to check it out because I just want to know why it is so popular. Twilight, for instance. I have croc sandles...they actually cured my heel spurs. But I hate the original clogs. I haven't read Harry Potter, but I will, again to analyze them. I usually get around to things in my own time well beyond when they're popular. When my daughter was a teen, all she had to say was "everyone else has it" and you could guarantee she wouldn't.

  9. No Twilight, Crocs, iPhone, or any other fad really...oh wait, I do have my Blackberry and my mini9, but way before I knew they would be so darn cool ;-) I probably would like those things if I had time for them, but come on...it's hard enough being this fantastic without all he extras to handle!

  10. I'm with you except for the Crocs bit. I have the flip flops not the ugly other one.

Sometimes there's way too much hype and that often turns me off for some reason.

  11. I love my Croc sandals and they're cute. But I was just thinking this same thing. I avoid TV shows that other teachers love. I wonder if it's contrariness, but I don't watch NCIS or the dancing shows (though I do like Grey's Anatomy.)

  12. I felt the same way about HP, but then a friend of mine forced me to sit down and watch the first movie. I changed my mind after a few minutes and went out and devoured the books.

They're not all _great_ (#5, I'm looking at you here), but they're mostly all _good_.

  13. Yes, I'm that way about a lot of the T.V. shows that people go ga-ga over. Do we really need 10 different C.S.I. settings? I'm waiting for C.S.I. Mayberry. And doctor shows? How many of those do we need? Really?

  14. I never noticed anyone wearing crocs in Albuquerque or Florida, but in Illinois, they're EVERYWHERE! I can't stand them, either. They're the ugliest shoes in the world. Lol...

  15. Oh my gosh, crocs are so ugly! Mindy, they're def. here in Florida, but we also wear a lot of flip flops. :-)
I actually bought my sons some crocs though, just because they're easy to slip on and they don't come off as easily. Also, they wash off well.

  16. Crocs and Birkenstocks are the most hideous inventions ever. Why any woman would wear them is beyond me. Really.
