Gimme an R! Gimme an E! Gimme an S!

Research. No matter what you genre write, you probably do some kind of research. Maybe more if you write historical. Maybe less if you write fantasy.

Anyway, I'm in the throes of preparation to write my first ever Young Adult. So what have I decided to do as part of my research? Enter the lion's den, basically.

I'm going to attend a two-hour cheerleading practice with one of my writing friends and her cheerleading teen and peers.

Should be interesting. I was the kind of kid in high school that made fun of cheerleaders. This may be karma coming back to bite me.

What's the craziest thing you've done in the name of research?

  1. Made soap. Diagrammed spiders. Making soap was much better. And prettier smelling.

  2. Crawled around on the floor of the backseat of a BMW 3 series. It's very cramped.

  3. Joined online dating site! LOL

  4. Photographed the Colombian cooks at the Latin American festival in Melbourne to get a feel for Juan, the hero in "Come to Heal." Gosh those guys were cute! I could have eaten them right up along with their corn and red-bean cakes. Oh, and I danced the salsa in the main street with them, too. Does that count? lol

  5. Throw parties for dozens of teenagers. LOL

  6. I'm researching human trafficing right now. I hope I don't have to do anything for my next book.
