Project Running Back

Last night's Project Runway was kind of a snoozefest. The contestants had to design an outfit for Tiki Barber, which was cool, I love Tiki, but except for maybe two of them, it seemed like they didn't listen to the challenge directions.

Tiki is fabulously dressed man who always looks like a million and two dollars. He asked them to design an outfit he could wear on the Today Show, told them he wasn't afraid of color, loved details and about his specific fit needs.

The contestants then basically ignored that and did whatever they wanted to, which in most cases meant making a suit. Fine. Great. Good. But if you've never made a suit before or haven't even thought about doing menswear, why pick perhaps the single hardest piece of clothing to reproduce? Why?

Not only that, but the fabrics most of them chose were bor-ring. And the style of some of them...so not Tiki. Let's discuss.

Okay, what is this? Tiki as Oliver Twist? I think not. And the crotch on those pants is the funniest thing I've seen all day.

This wasn't the winner, but it was in my book. Yes, the colors a boring, but the jacket is made of fleece, not suiting material, which gives it a casualness that works. The pants drape nicely, too. I would have gone with a patterned shirt and some nice buttons on the jacket to jazz it up.

This would be great for Tiki. When he moves to Sunset Village and takes up canasta. Hello! He's not 70! Quit trying to dress him like he is.

Um. Yeah. Nice, um, neckline. (Actually, if this had been made better, it would have been in the running. The pants were great, but from the waist up it's a disaster zone.)
Tiki Barber in a cravat? Are you freakin' kidding me? Did you look at the man? Does he look like he ever wears a cravat?

Anyway, there were more I wanted to talk about, but Blogger isn't letting me upload and more pictures. Grrr. Any thoughts on the show? Did you watch?

  1. If you ask me, they all suck. Where are they getting these people? My ten year old son can dress better than this.

  2. Oooo... I haven't seen it yet. I'm out of town this week and hope I set my PVR to record it...

It always amazes me on those shows when they don't listen. On the Canadian version a couple of weeks ago (Iman is the host) they were supposed to do a gown for this opera diva who's at least a size 16 and likes to be barefoot on stage. She specifically said that she didn't want her feet to show. One of them did a thing that was knee length from the front. Huh? And another one did a backless, sideless, almost frontless, gown that was beautiful -- but could only be worn by a flat chested size 2 model. Certainly not a full figured opera singer. Sigh.

  3. Okay, I have to admit, it's the first time I've ever watched the show. I was expecting some high fashion and fun, but honestly, I can sew better than half of them with one arm tied behind my back. Is this typical??

  4. Ok, I've been a fan since season one and you are right that it was a snoozefest last night. The most exciting part was the male models stripping for their fittings. And what was it with the spitter turning her back because she won't look at any man but her husband??

  5. I am so sucked in by that show when I was in Hawaii. I am guilty to say I saw a marathon of three or four episodes and forced myself to leave the hotel room to enjoy my vacation. I think this year's PR is a snoozer too. That show always makes me want to sew and I start to wonder if I had gone to FIT if I would be on it and kicking some major design booty!

  6. Kristen, you slay me. I watched the show again last night, I still didn't get Jack winning. It was just a shirt and a pair of pants that looked as if he'd run down to Macy's and bought off the rack. There were a few others that I thought were much more innovative and hipper looks. I think Kit and Chris both did a good job with their designs and honorable mention to Victoria.

Just going by the pictures here, I agree with you on the fleece jacket outfit. :)

  8. Gotta agree with you. I loved the fleece jacket and really felt that outfit should have won. I'm looking forward to tonight's episode.
