Shine On

LifeGem is company that will take your loved one's ashes (or your pet's) and turn them into a created diamond. I'm serious.

Depending on the color (blue or yellow), the cost ranges from $2700 to $20,000.

My question: Would you? What do you think of it? Is it romantic or just weird?

  1. I like the idea of having something real that came from someone/thing I loved, but I'm not sure I'd trust somebody else with the ashes. When I think of my kitty I lost, I'd love to have a ring to remember him by - but as far as using his ashes to make it??!? Hmm, there is a weirdness factor involved, too. Of course, in ancient times people did things we would consider strange. (shrug) If I had that kind of disposable income right now, I'd but a laptop before the ring... LOL

  2. I think it's a little morbid. I don't want to be sporting a ring or any jewelry with ashes of a loved one.. it's a bit creepy to be reminded that they're on you at all times.. LOL

Hey, but some people love that kind of stuff.. So be it.

I'd rather lay them to rest than carry bits of them.

  3. I think it is utterly romantic. And very beautiful

    *Sigh*

I don't know why - but I love jewelry, perhaps it is the female hormone. I dunno.

But if my daughter were to die, I think this would be an option that I would consider.

Or if the love of my life died - what more romance can there be - but to have them turned into something so beautiful?

OK - I may be an odd duck - but they are a heckuva a lot prettier than the urns that lay around people's houses.

  4. I think it's morbid. Of course, I'm not one to care too much about remains. It's not like the person or pet is in that body anymore. It's just a shell and holds no significance. I understand some folks get a lot of meaning out of visiting the resting places of family, or keeping remnants of family close by, but I'm not one of them. I already told dh I'm getting cremated and scattered. And so is he!

I'm in the 'it's morbid' camp. But, to 'each their own'. :)

  6. No more morbid then wearing a locket with a lock of the dead person's hair or a brooch made of the hair. People used to do that all the time and not too long ago either.

I am not sure if I could though.

  7. I sent this link to the husband and asked him if he preferred to be a blue diamond or a yellow diamond.

    He went with blue.

I think this is an awesome memorial and I don't find it morbid at all. I find keeping the ashes in a locket or in a vase on the mantle a little morbid.

  8. Hey - I figure the hubby could always use my carbon made diamond to propose to his next prospect.

  11. It give me the whole ick factor. Next thing you know you'll be talking to your ring and kissing it. A dead persons ashes. Yuck.

  12. I think I might do it. I told Dh I wanted to be an organ donor and cremated. If I were to die people would be walking around with my organs, why not a nice diamond?

Alrighty then. Enough talking about my own death.

How's the weather down there? :)
